Irish Landscape & Equine Artist

David Paton is an Irish artist, focusing on equine art and working largely en plein air. He captures the raw beauty of the natural world. His work reveals a deep connection to the rural and coastal landscapes of his home in Meath and across Ireland. From the west coast of Ireland to serene woodlands and ever-changing skies, David deploys expressive brushwork and an instinctive sense of atmosphere.

While widely recognised for his evocative landscapes, he is equally known for his dynamic equine and sporting artworks. With a lifelong love of horses and a rural upbringing, he brings an intuitive understanding of movement and anatomy to each piece. His approach is fluid and gestural, avoiding rigid structure in favour of natural flow, resulting in work that feels both contemporary and alive.

Trained in graphic design at DIT, with further studies at NCAD, his background lends clarity and compositional strength to his paintings. Whether painting the quiet drama of a hedgerow, the thrill of a race, or the stillness of a vast beach, he strives not just to represent what he sees, but to capture the feeling of being there.
