Coastal Paintings

Coastal Paintings Paintings by David Paton

On the Beara Peninsula in Cork and Kerry, distant inlets and seemingly hidden islands emerge through the sunlit haze, offering moments of quiet revelation and mystery. It is no wonder that the Buddhist monks of Dzogchen chose this location as a place for stillness and meditation.

Further north, on the sands of Mulranny Beach in Co. Mayo, there's a spiritual quiet that settles in, the kind of peace that makes time feel suspended. Looking out across the sea toward the islands, the experience becomes transcendent, as if standing at the edge of something eternal.

But one need not travel far for inspiration. Just a short drive away, the wide beaches of Bettystown, Mornington, and Clogherhead offer expansive skies, moving tides, and sweeping views toward the Mourne Mountains. These familiar places are just as powerful in their beauty, a reminder that Ireland’s coastline is a treasure often overlooked.

The paintings celebrate this natural wonder, its mood, light, and untamed elegance. As an island nation, Ireland holds some of the most breathtaking coastlines in the world. To experience and capture that on canvas is both a privilege and a joy.
